Which Enzyme Product is Right For You?
1. I'm not sure where to start ...
If you don't know what to start with, use a broad-spectrum product
Zyme Prime is easy to adjust to. Zyme Prime is mild, low in protease (protein digesting enzymes), and has no fruit-based enzymes. It should not cause any discomfort. Excellent starter product for sensitive gut.
If you do not see desired results with Zyme Prime, either increase the dose, add another product (Peptizyde, AFP-Peptizyde, or No-Fenol) or switch to TriEnza.
TriEnza is a stronger broad-spectrum product. It contains the enzymes from AFP-Peptizyde for proteins, the enzymes from Zyme Prime for fats & carbohydrates, and 1/2 the enzymes from No-Fenol (Xylanase) for certain fruits and vegetables. TriEnza is higher in proteases than Zyme Prime. TriEnza has DPP IV activity, unlike Zyme Prime, and may be an alternative to the GFCF diet.
You may want to start dosing TriEnza with one meal per day and increase gradually.
2. I need help with the GFCF diet, or need an alternative to the diet...
If the parent complains about the difficulty of doing the diets, or the child is wanting more freedom to eat "like his friends do", or I hear the parent wanting to improve gluten- and casein-connected behaviors - then I recommend the high-protease AFP-Peptizyde (or Peptizyde)
If you are concerned about the gluten and/or casein proteins, start with
AFP Peptizyde or Peptizyde (or TriEnza)
Peptizyde and AFP-Peptizyde are the original products invented as an alternative for the GFCF diet (Gluten-free, Casein-free). Peptizyde/AFP/TriEnza are high-protease, with high DPP IV activity. AFP is the newer, lower odor version of Peptizyde. TriEnza is our new combination product.
Best to start these high-protease products with low and slow dosing - see our dosing chart. If child is already on GFCF diet, parent should not change diet until fully adjusted to enzymes. Not for celiac disease. No enzyme product is available for celiac disease, or for "cheating" on a celiac diet, in any form.
3. Loose stools, low weight, picky eater, carb craver, gas & bloating
If I hear phrases like "loose stools", "low weight", "picky eater", "carb craver", etc.; then I usually recommend starting with
Zyme Prime tends to firm stools. It is excellent at breaking down carbs. If constipation is a problem, but you still need help with carbohydrates, try ZyCarb.
4. Food related allergies
Skin rashes, rough patches on elbows, and not restricting gluten clue me into the possibility of gluten intolerance. We can achieve better digestion of gluten through the use of protease enzymes
AFP Peptizyde or Peptizyde (or TriEnza) would be suggested.
5. Is constipation a problem?
If so, then we want to avoid using Zyme Prime alone, as it decreases and firms the stools. If this is an issue, I want to add the No-Fenol product, as it tends to soften the food mass in the gut. If Zyme Prime is needed
No-Fenol can be added to counteract the stool-hardening properties of Zyme Prime.
If No-Fenol softens stools too much, reduce the dose or add Zyme Prime.
6. Does the child have red cheeks and/or ears after eating certain fruits?
This can be a phenolic intolerance that may be helped by using
"Shiners" under the eyes may also be an indicator that phenolic foods are problem.
As with any supplement, results can vary with the individual and there is always the exception. But most can use the above as a guide for starting enzymes. The great thing about enzymes is that they are not harmful at any level of dosing, so you can experiment to find the best combination for your particular needs.
